How Much is Your Blog Worth?

ShowHype: hype it up!

My blog is worth $10,161.72.
How much is your blog worth?

A slight improvement over last week! I just have to keep the linking from technorati blogs up and it should continue to go up. The increase isn't too great, but any improvement is good. How are you doing with this?

Just checked the alexa rankings, and it doesn't look like anything has changed. I don't know how often they update, so I will make that a monthly thing here. Someone remind me when the time comes three weeks from now. Hmm, this entry seems pretty boring right now. What do I have that is exciting right now?

How about some crappy people that come to the movies! Sunday evening, there was a gentleman who came to the theatre, bought two tickets and left. Boring huh? Well, he actually gave the tickets to two kids, one his son, and one not. For a rated R movie. They got caught, and called him to come pick them up. Here's where things get interesting. He asked to speak to me, and when he came up to me, he explained that he bought them tickets, and that they should be able to see the movie without him. I explained the policy to him. Simple, right?

Of course not. He said "Why did you sell me two tickets then?" Of course, it was under the assumption that he was going to the movie, right? "Don't assume anything. You shouldn't have sold me the tickets." How were we supposed to know? Anyway, right after this he demands to see the MPAA guidelines. You guys know that I've had my experiences with this. So I go upstairs looking for the pamphlets we carry, and I couldn't find them. I did find the poster from this post though. It was sitting in our lobby, right where it should be. He goes on to tell me that all he has to do, according to that poster, is accompany them to the theatre, not the movie. At this point the GM has gotten involved, and re-explains it to him again. His final response? "You've got about 30 seconds to return my money." Geez. What a jerk.

I don't like people who speak in a threatening tone. I don't know what they think, that intimidating people will get them far in the world? It's easier to be nice, and keep things like that in. The look on their faces as you stay calm while they freak out is priceless. :-) I've got another one, but I'll save that for another post!

How Much Is Your Blog Worth?

ShowHype: hype it up!

My blog is worth $9,597.18.
How much is your blog worth?

Well, my blog worth has apparently gone up about 3k since last we checked! Now where is that check so I can cash it!!! I could start my own movie theatre, and every one of my bloggie friends could get in for free, :-). Hopefully I am still beating Matt at something.. or has he caught up again and overshoot me like crazy, like he did with Alexa. But did HE manage to save up 52 bucks in change? Didn't think so. :-)

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone who reads this has ever worked at a movie theatre, or wanted to. If you have, what did you like and not like about it? If you wanted to, what made you want to?

I can tell you what made me want to work at the movies. It was that my friends were working there, and every teenager wants to work with their friends. That way work will be just one big party all the time! Of course, when I first applied I was too young, and when I reapplied no one else did. I have to say that it's been an incredible 6 years! I really can't believe it's been that long. What kind of jobs did you guys hold through high school... and do you wish you could go back to them?

Sorry that this post has been off topic, I've haven't had any real exciting stories at the movies or seen any recently. I'll hopefully provide a review of The Heartbreak Kid sometime on Friday, so look for that. I've also still got to make someone famous this week.... would anyone like that honor?

In movie trivia.......

Evan Almightyis the most expensive comedy made to date. What was it's budget?

Problogger's Blog Contests!

ShowHype: hype it up!
Darren Rowse over at Problogger is celebrating the birthday of his blog by giving away over $54,000 in prizes! Makes his seem a bit better than my contest. hmph. One day Darren... one day. Anyway, he's giving away a ton of cool things, and while I usually don't enter contests, I'm pretty interested in some of the prizes.

To enter, you do have to create one blog entry (so don't worry about this blog being spammed by contest entries). This will be my blog entry. The prize for this entry is pretty awesome. It's two USB powered 20" LCDs made by DisplayLink. That would go great with the cinema display that I already have! I might even be interested in giving one away too in a contest if I win! Actually, I think I would do just that!

Anyway, if you are interested, head over to Problogger and check out his contest pages. I think it's a great place to read about blogging and also perhaps win something awesome! I hope one day I can have a blog as successful as that!

Website Goals!

ShowHype: hype it up!
Hi everyone! I just refound this widget on alexa that gives your traffic ranking. Well, I've previously been monitoring my website success on the How Much is Your Blog Worth posts, but I will also be using this now. It's WAY down at the bottom of my main page if you want to see it, but I'm going to try to increase it every... month we'll say. Currently, I'm at a rank of 1,838,167. Ok, I didn't say it was great, but hey, you gotta start somewhere!

On another note,
WidgetBucks
is a new system for monetizing your blog. As with AuctionAds, they're offering $25 to people who start up, so give them both a look if you're looking to monetize the blog!

Just for fun here, let's see the traffic rankings of my Famous blogs, according to Alexa:

Skittle: 5,561,619
Mrs. Mandypoo:
2,959,921
Blog Cabins: 2,062,642
It's All Good..Gossip: 3,756,778

And for some added competition... here's Matt's:

Mom Yelled My Full Name Last Night
: 13

Whoa!! WHAT THE CRAP MATT?!?! How did you manage that?!?!?! You ever think Alexa makes a mistake? If you do, digg this and let them know!!! I'll probably combine this with my blog worth post next week, but this was fun to start now! I have some catching up to do.... Matt "ranks" higher than John Chow and Problogger! We'll post the rankings again next week!

Let's Make Someone Famous: jleegirl!

ShowHype: hype it up!
Unfortunately, I'm late with this one this week, I don't know what happened! Well, I'm going with jleegirl this week, and her blog, It's All Good...Gossip!

I almost always take a browse at the headlines on this blog. I mean, Britney Loses Custody of Kids, Eva Longoria Sex Tape, are just a few of her recent headlines. Pretty racy huh? I also really like the daily feature that she has, Celebrity Anniversaries. That means you're pretty much guaranteed a nice tidbit from the entertainment world every time you visit!

Overall, I think it's a great entertainment blog, providing interesting and sometimes controversial stories. Always short and to the point, it's never a drag to read! There are also an incredible amount of photos on the site, as demonstrated by the post "The Heartbreak Kid Premiere". There's also that mash up video of the cartoon characters to the new Soldier Boy song, which is pretty annoying and funny at the same time! A great supplement to your favorite movie blog, which is right here, right?!?

Congrats to jleegirl on becoming famous! Take a peek on over there, I'm sure you'll find something interesting!

Million Euro Wiki

ShowHype: hype it up!
Hey everyone, just browsing around on the internet and found another opportunity I'd like your advice on. I've been looking to purchase a page on the Million Euro Wiki. Pages run for 75 euro, or about $100. That's a lot of money. However, the benefits are that the site is going to go viral soon, and that you can do whatever you want with a page that's going to be hosted for free, for life. Well.. what do you guys think? Should I give it a shot? Or should I just stick to trying to build up traffic the regular way?

As with everything, there's a risk involved. It looks like a good promotion, but its a lot of money. Who knows what will happen from it though? Please let me know what you think, yes or no. As always, your opinions are important to me! As a reader, or perhaps blogger yourself, would you even consider it?

Blogging has been really fun for me, but I always worry about what people think when I try something new with monetization. I know the blog is not very old, and not established yet, but its something that I care about, and something that I plan on doing for a long time to come. My readers are important to me, and I admit I do like reading comments, and replying to them! The community feel of a blog is something I really like! However, trying to satisfy some of my own personal goals seems to have drawn criticism, and it does bother me sometimes.

I mean, I've been trying to work on my other blog as well, and when things don't work I get so frustrated. For example, my feeds aren't working and my wordpress install is messed up on that blog, but I've been trying really hard to find solutions, sometimes spending way too much time on it! It's the same here when I customize, or when I read blogs! It sometimes takes up too much time... but I get attached!

DOH! I FORGOT TO MAKE SOMEONE FAMOUS! THAT WILL COME TOMORROW!!!!

That's all for now, hopefully I will get some responses. If I do decide to do this you can be sure that your links will be there! Ummm.. if this was too serious for you.. maybe this will make you laugh :-). (NSFW)

NEW: Decided not to do it.. would rather spend my money on something else, perhaps hosting on the new blog I started!

How Much is Your Blog Worth: Volume 2, Part 2

ShowHype: hype it up!

My blog is worth $7,339.02.
How much is your blog worth?

I've found that Wednesdays are my "fun" blogging days, where I don't necessarily blog about movies. Not that blogging about movies is not fun! This is one of those fun things that I like to update weekly. I'm up about double in worth what I was from last week, and that's thanks to you guys linking to my posts! I really appreciate it! I've got a meme that I've got to tackle on later, but I'd like to know how your blogs are doing using this system to determine worth! As always, I'm open to sharing links, and providing those technorati bumps that blogs love to get! Also, if you haven't already updated my link.. I'd appreciate it you could! I'm now at Intermission at Work or http://www.intermissionatwork.com.

My subscribership has also gone through the roof! I'm up to 23 today. Has anyone else noticed drastic changes in their subscribership recently?

On another note, if anyone is looking to buy a domain using GoDaddy, I suggest you search online for "godaddy coupons". That will usually provide you with some sort of code that lets you gets savings towards your own domain. It's my way of staying committed to blogging! Well, that's all for now.. gonna tackle that meme in a bit!

Changes being made

ShowHype: hype it up!
frustration
I was dumb and tried to change my theme, but didn't save my widgets. Trying to make everything work again, please bear with me.

EDIT: Alright.. I got most of it back and I tried to get it looking as good as I could. Most of the ads are in one spot now so hopefully that will ... make some people happy. It was a pretty nice wordpress like theme that I was going to try. Maybe another time when I have a chance to back up EVERYTHING. On to write my post for the day :-) and work on this thing some more.

Let's Make Someone Famous: Blog Cabins!

ShowHype: hype it up!
All right, I dropped the ball on making someone famous this week, I was so excited about writing for Film School Rejects! Anyway, this week I thought I'd give a shout out to a fellow movie blogger, Blog Cabins!

As you can tell from the banner picture above, he writes insanely important film reviews. So insanely important in fact, that they rival my own. For his most recent review, Fletch took on Two Days in Paris. Not to be confused with a movie of similar name. Please don't. To go along with his reviews, he's got an extremely innovative rating system! Here's an image of it:

Isn't this great? It's awesome to be able to visualize how good a movie should be after you've read the review! I mean, if a movie is insanely awesome, and Fletch gives it a "Best of the Best", you get to relate it to Karate Kid! I think its pretty incredible. Only wish I thought of it first. :-\

Anyway, besides insanely important film reviews, Fletch also provides commentary on dvds, movies that should and shouldn't be made, and an analysis of movies that are coming out! The latter is known as TGITDNMAR. Classic. Some other recent stuff includes an interesting analysis on the poster for the Game Plan, and some insight on one of the first movies my family owned, Kindergarten Cop!

One of this other articles that I really liked was on Full House. Could this be made into a movie! Visit Blog Cabins to find out!

Well, that's all for now. Let's congratulate Blog Cabins on becoming famous by taking a gander over to his blog!

Disclaimer: Becoming Famous, while awesome, does not guarantee any results. I'm working on methods of getting these peeps tons of hits, so bear with me!

Film School Rejects!

ShowHype: hype it up!
Hi Everyone! I've just been included as a writer over at Film School Rejects! Don't worry, I won't be neglecting this blog at all, but this is an exciting opportunity for me. A chance to get my writing out there, and hopefully bring some more popularity to this blog.

For anyone who doesn't know, Film School Rejects is a site that provides movie reviews and movie news, and is quite an authority on the subjects! There are many contributing writers providing many opinions on any movie you could possibly want. Check them out for movie reviews, if I haven't provided one here first! Just kidding, feel free to visit both of us!

They always say one of the best ways to market yourself is to write on someone else's site. Well I'm grabbing that bull by the horns now!

Anyway, I hope you guys are as excited about this as I am, I can't wait to get my work out there! I just had to post about it before I went to bed. More tomorrow everyone!

How Much is Your Blog Worth: The Return!

ShowHype: hype it up!

My blog is worth $3,387.24.
How much is your blog worth?

Well, I've decided to bring this back. Things have changed since I've picked up the new domain. As some of you may know, this little quiz is based on your technorati ranking. Unfortunately, technorati does not change your ranking when you updated a domain name. If you didn't know, I've recently changed the domain of this blog to www.intermissionatwork.com. I figured this would be a way to keep me dedicated to this! If you haven't already, please update my link if you have the chance! Matt, you're in the lead once again! I will try to catch up to your greatness again.

Has anyone else had a positive result since the last time they checked their blog? Let me know how you're doing, maybe we can post our results or have a friendly contest, lol.

Just an update here on Blogrush. As you can see from the little image here on the side, your links actually do appear on other people's blogs! I found this one at Chaseblogger's website. So if you're looking to promote your website, this could be a decent way to do it. I haven't generated any clicks yet, but it could happen, especially with more exposure. So give Blogrush a try if you're looking to get the word out there!

Sorry, I was just excited to see my link actually appear here... heh. I didn't think it would actually work.. but I guess it does show up. Now clicky click!

More interesting news that is not enough to create a new blog post about. Today is International Talk like a Pirate Day! I saw this on my work schedule (company wide) and thought that it was just a huge joke from the kids over in development. Then I headed over to digg and saw it there. I almost hit the floor laughing! Y'ar Mateys!

How to Popularize your Blog

ShowHype: hype it up!
I know there's a huge waiting line for people waiting to be famous on this site, but if you can't wait to get your blog out there, there's another way to do it! Blogrush launched today, with an easy to install widget! Check it out here! When you've installed it, you'll get a widget like the one I have on the right. Your blog could be appearing on hundreds of other blogs every day!

Of course, you could always get on the list to be made famous here. It's had huge impacts. Just ask whatagem, Mrs. Mandypoo, and Skittle. They'll vouch for me. One day they'll make a movie about all the blogs I make famous. :-) Make sure you get in line before its too late!

In anticipation of this week's movie openings, I thought I'd run a little poll:

More later on tonight! Bye for now!

Disclaimer: Becoming Famous, while awesome, does not guarantee any results. I've always wanted to have a disclaimer. I wonder if anyone will read this. I am working on ideas to get these people tons of hits though, so just bear with me! As always, if you want to become famous, just drop me a comment!

Busy Weekend! Food and Fun!

ShowHype: hype it up!
red sox logoNot at the movie theatre, but for myself personally. I don't know if people will like that I'm not talking about movies that much in this post, but only time will tell. I did work my normal two days this weekend, and both were extremely slow. There's just no good movies out, and when you're in the Boston area, and the Red Sox are playing the Yankees, forget about it. Add the Patriots on Sunday night and my staff and I are left twiddling our thumbs. Go Sox and Patriots!

On my day off, I considered working the Boston Film Festival, but I decided I needed a day off, and I went to watch the Red Sox play at Boston Billiards. Great atmosphere for watching a baseball game, though its not quite Fenway Park. Afterwards, we ended up at The Cheesecake Factory. Any of you eaten there before? Do you like it? I had the Thai Chicken Pasta, which was excellent. I also have a piece of strawberry cheesecake still waiting to be eaten. :-) Yum.

That kinda gets me thinking about the theatre a bit. We all know theatres serve popcorn, soda, hotdogs, etc. Are things any different around the country? How about in other countries, for my international readers? I've been to Canadian theatres and they have some different toppings for popcorn! Yum. Let me know and I'll compile a post of all the various types of food they serve in movie theatres throughout the world! (And locally, if there are some non-traditional things you've seen)

Continuing on the weekend, for anyone who's still reading, went to the Casino this morning. Didn't come out ahead though :-(. Hopefully my blog will someday make up for that, but not quite yet. I've been trying though! Here's a another question for you readers! How do you feel about me trying to monetize this blog? Is it offensive? Are you ok with it? Does it turn you off completely from my content or do you only notice if there is something that interests you? I know reactions can go either way with monetized blogs, and I'd like to hear from everyone!
Back to the casino though, I did have fun! They have an incredible buffet there, so I got my fill of great food and desserts two days in a row! The casino gave me free food for my birthday too, so that took out the sting of losing a bit.

Anyway, I'll try to provide a more movie oriented post tomorrow. I'm still drained from the weekend.... hope it was a great one for you too!

Let's Make Someone Famous: Whatagem!

ShowHype: hype it up!
benderIt's that time of the week again, and we've got Whatagem in the spotlight! The picture we've got here on the left is actually from one of her blogs, and I love seeing it each time. Definitely shows what I'd like to do while promoting my blog, lol. She's got another blog over at The Battle Against Bootleg, which is a great read for anyone who's ever had trouble selling something on Ebay.

I'm gonna focus on the one that I found from her first, You Only Thought You Were Funny. Quite a name huh? I really like it...makes you think twice about yourself before you even start reading and chuckle. Another thing I like is how personal her blog is. Recently she's been blogging about a knee surgery that her husband has been dealing with, and how difficult it is. I mean, she couldn't even get out to see Superbad!

Another thing I can relate to is her recent post about blogging. It's a tough world out there in the blogosphere. I've even received some criticism for trying to monetize my blog. It definitely takes a lot of effort, and I can see that Whatagem is trying to put the time in to make it successful! She blogs about a lot of stuff, and a majority of it is pretty interesting, so let's all stop by and give her some love. If you like it, you can even stumble it and get her some good traffic! Feel free to do the same here :-)

As always, let me know if you'd like to be famous! I'd be more than happy to write something for you! Also let me know if you like the redesign on this page!

How Much is Your Blog Worth! (Volume 4)

ShowHype: hype it up!

My blog is worth $16,936.20.
How much is your blog worth?

Woohoo! I did it again! I exceeded my goal for increase in worth! Well, I guess that it wasn't really that much more, but I'll take it. If only this money were real! Question for those of you who publish with adsense... have you been having much success? How about anything else you have tried.. has any of it worked? Matt, are you feelin the heat from this competition??

For those of you who have noticed, Intermission at Work has found a new home, at www.intermissionatwork.com. I decided to scrap the plan for hosting since its nearly impossible to move blogspot blogs through ftp, and even then I would lose all of my formatting, which I like. Hopefully all of you have found your way over here, don't forget to bring your friends!!!

Just found out we're screening both Death Sentence and Halloween tomorrow. I'll let you know if either one is spectacular or spectacularly crappy. Nothing on TV for me tonight so there's lots of blog reading to be done.. wish I could be watchin the Red Sox v. the Yankees. GO SOX!!!

How Much is Your Blog Worth (Volume 3)!

ShowHype: hype it up!

My blog is worth $12,984.42.
How much is your blog worth?

I have achieved my goal for this week! I actually exceeded it. How is everyone else doing with this? Matt, the challenge is on. First one to $1,000,000 wins. This has been a neat little tool that has helped keep me engaged with this blog. Every time I check it and it goes up it feels like an accomplishment! Anyone having trouble keeping up with their blog? Maybe this will help! Brr... I'm cold. Off to get a sweatshirt before I research my next entry!

John Chow dot Com

ShowHype: hype it up!
This is my network. Hopefully. Haha, we're all trying to get more traffic as bloggers. I've recently been reading John Chow's Website to try to get tips on how I can help myself. He has a lot of tips for starting bloggers, and is also willing to offer his own help!

I am writing cuz I'd like to have some help to make money online, which is part of the reason for this blog! It can be an experiment for my small amount of readers. Trying writing a review of his blog like I'm doing now, and see how much traffic he can drive to your site by linking to your blog! I'm curious to see the results!

Now of course this is not for everyone, but I'm willing to give most things a try. Don't worry, I'll return to my regularly scheduled posting later on tonight, for those of you looking for movies!

WOOHOO, finally successful with Digg button. Now someone click it. just kidding.. if you want to know how to do that just ask me, I'll help you out!

Review: Rush Hour 3 and More!

ShowHype: hype it up!

So I actually saw this on Wednesday, I just haven't had time to write about it what with work and all. Sorry about the long hiatus (More than 24 Hours!) since my last post. I hope you all will forgive me and keep on readin!

Anyway, this movie is exactly what I expected it to be. Nothing too spectacular, it had its funny moments and was overall an enjoyable experience. They did try to force some of the gags a bit. However, there's some stuff to see during the credits that is pretty funny, so if you're going to see this movie feel free to stay for the credits!

I like Jackie Chan for the most part, and Chris Tucker gave a decent performace. The stunts seemed pretty well performed, though I don't know how much longer Jackie can do his own stunts. I do kinda wish that I could do stuff like that. I guess something that really helped my experience with this is that when I saw it, it was with a crowd of mainly asians. My girl decided that it would be really funny to laugh whenever an asian did something funny, so it was a little humorous to see the people turn around and look sometimes. But that's not saying I like causing disturbances, since I have to deal with them all the time!

Workin yesterday wasn't bad at all. The only movie that really did any business was Superbad, as I had expected. My staff really gets a kick out of IDing kids or stopping kids who try to sneak into Rated R movies. I know that its a pretty harsh policy, so how do you guys feel about it? For those who don't know, for Rated R movies, you must be 17 years or older to see it. If you don't have ID or are not old enough, you must be with a parent or legal guardian 21 years or older throughout the entire film. That last line reminds me of the reminder I have to leave in our theatre recording. Sad. On an interesting note, I actually used Facebook to check someone's age to make sure they were old enough to see it. Haha. I had him log into his page, and show me his age. Guess I felt nice at that point, because he didn't have an ID. Facebook can prove a lot of things though, right?

What's weird about posting now is that I thought I would still be asleep at this point. I've been missing out on a lot of sleep because of work, but for some reason I woke up early again today. Tired, but early. Guess I had a lot of things on my mind, and couldn't wait to blog about em. First, another moviegoing tip! To save money go to an early AM Cinema show at your local AMC. It'll cost you 4,5,or $6 depending on your theatre! Good for shows between 9 and 1030 I think! Next, I signed up for payperpost. I guess people have had some success with this when blogging online. I don't know how much I'll get into it cuz I want to write about what I want to here, but here's a button in case you're interested in signing up!

Nothing huge, cuz I don't want to disturb the reader experience. Another thing I found last night was algoco. This is interesting. Apparently they pay you to surf the internet. And that's it. Just surf the internet using their toolbar and you get paid. Seems too simple to be true.. but here's a link in case you are interested!

Blag, well enough about stuff that doesn't pertain as much. Hopefully I still have you guys here. I'm thinking about running a contest. I actually have some cool movie stuff that I can give away, like posters, banners, etc, but I'm not sure how to best do this. Of course I want it to be something that will get more people reading here. So who best to ask than my readers! What do you guys think I could do for a contest? I had an idea for a longer term contest where as soon as my adsense revenue took off I would pay for the domain for someone else's site (who was a reader or commenter), but that seems a bit far off. Let me know what you guys think!

Off to hopefully see Superbad today. Unfortunately, even theatre managers can get shut out of some movies.

Bloggers.....Assemble!!!!

ShowHype: hype it up!
67%How Addicted to Blogging Are You?

I guess I am pretty addicted to blogging. But its so much fun! How addicted to blogging are you guys? I just keep trying to think of ways to increase my traffic and clicks and stuff like that. Anyone else trying to do the same? People say things like contests could work, so I've been considering that too. Any ideas? Probably something movie related, since that's what I do!

Screened Superbad tonight.. unfortunately since I was working, I could not watch it. Computer problem instead kept me doing paperwork until ohhh.. a half hour ago. I'm sure to be poppin fresh for work at 9 after this.

Guess this can't hurt to try to build traffic. Copy this list of links to your blog, adding yours at the bottom. See if it can bring you 500 links! I will let you know if this works!
