Movies This Weekend! 4/25/08

ShowHype: hype it up!
Hey all! Almost done with the redesign for this blog, and I can't wait to reveal it. Hopefully this will help increase the profile of the site, so that I can help you guys promote also! Of course, you can always check out the LAMB to help promote your blog... that is, if it's a movie blog! Anyway, I know why you've come here... it's Tuesday, so that means movie previews for the weekend! This week actually features some movies that I really want to see, so I'm fairly excited!

Baby Mama - Katie Holbrook is a single, successful businesswoman, and has always put her career in front of her personal life. Now, at age 37, she is finally determine to have a child of her own. When she finds out that her chances of having a child are less than a million to one, she goes to find a surrogate mother. That mother is Angie Ostrowiski. When Angie gets pregnant, Katie goes into nesting mode, learning all she can about taking care of children, baby-proofing her home, and more. Her plans are turned upside down when her surrogate mother shows up at her doorstep without a place to live. Faced with a huge challenge, the two forces collide as Katie tries to structure Angie's life, and Angie wants none of it.

How's it gonna do? - I'm looking forward to this one, and I hope that I have the time to see it. Tina Fey has seemed to have so many hits lately, and I don't think she goes wrong with this one either. Amy Poehler as her counterpart makes it even better, as I think the two of them have some great chemistry, especially since they were both on Saturday Night Live. Look for this one to hit the number 2 spot at the Box Office this weekend!

Deception - Jonathan leads a boring life. However, things get much more exciting when he meets a lawyer named Wyatt. Jonathan soon finds that Wyatt's life is much darker than he could ever imagined, and he may be in over his head.

How's it gonna do? - To be honest, I have no idea what this movie is about,a nd I've never heard anything about it before. It does have some pretty big stars in Ewan McGregor, Michelle Williams, and Hugh Jackman. But I don't know anything else about it, so I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and hope that it appeals to some of the crowds... #4 this weekend!

Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay - A continuation on one of the greatest stoner movies ever. In their first adventure, they traveled all over the place to find their coveted White Castle Burgers. In their second adventure, they find themselves in trouble after sneaking on a plane to Amsterdam. Now being suspected as terrorists, they run from the law and are forced to find a way to try to clear their name. What follows is one of the funniest, most politically incorrect movies you'll find to date!

How's it gonna do? - My slam dunk pick for number 1 this weekend. I loved the first one, and it always seems to come out when I'm quoting something funny. I think it's rated R... I can't tell from its page on Rotten Tomatoes, but I think it will help this one, like Superbad. In fact, that's the movie I'd compare it to most when it comes to recent movies. I hope that it will perform as well as Superbad, because we need another good comedy... at least I need one!

That's it for the movies this weekend.... I can't wait for two of them. The ones that I actually knew something about, lol. Anything you're looking forward to this weekend?

Movies This Weekend! 4/18/08

ShowHype: hype it up!
Ack! Once again, it's been one week since I've posted. I've been working hard on a redesign for this site, and moving it to Wordpress. Hopefully, the site will be much more appealing, and much more fun to visit in the coming month or so. I want the new look to be perfect before I release it, and I still need to get photoshop to design some stuff, so stay on the lookout for that. While you're here, would anyone be interested in predicting the box office every weekend? Nothing too detailed, just the top 5 movies... and I'll give away a prize to the best guesser every month? Let me know!

Anyway, onto the movies....

88 Minutes - Dr. Jack Gramm is a college professor who spends his nights moonlighting as a forensic psychiatrist for the FBI. When he receives a death threat stating that he only has 88 minutes to live, he must use all of his skill to narrow down the suspects, and find the way to save himself.

How's it gonna do - I don't know about this one. I'm usually a fan of Pacino movies, but this one doesn't seem like the others. It has potential to be interesting, but I have a feeling that this one will fall flat. The first hint is that it hasn't scored well on the tomatometer in initial screening. That and the movie is 106 minutes long, not 88 minutes! What kind of crap is that?! Not as advertised. I'm gonna pass on this one, but it'll hit the top 5 this weekend. 3 at the max, I think.

The Forbidden Kingdom - An American teenager who has been obsessed with Asian cinema and Kung fu movies makes an incredible discovery in a Chinese pawn shop: the weapon of the Monkey King. With this relic, he finds himself traveling back in time to join a crew of martial arts warriors in their quest to free the captured Monkey King. Based on the traditional Legend of the Monkey King.

How's it gonna do - I think that this one will do pretty well. Movies like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hero, and House of Flying Daggers have all been impressive. Not necessarily the same genre as those, I still think Forbidden Kingdom will draw some viewers as its the first pairing of Jet Li and Jackie Chan ever. Being an Asian, it's almost required that I see this one :-). I'll let you know how it is, but I think it's in the #2 spot this weekend!

Forgetting Sarah Marshall - From the guys who brought you Knocked Up and The 40-Year Old Virgin. Peter Bretter is a struggling musician who has spent the past 6 years idolizing his girlfriend, television star Sarah Marshall. When she dumps him, he thinks his world just might be over. To try to help with this, he takes an impulsive trip to Oahu, where he confronts his worst nightmare. Sarah and her new British rock star boyfriend are sharing the same hotel as him! As her presence there torments him more and more, he finds solace in a beautiful hotel employee, Rachel, who attempts to bring him back into the real world.

How's it gonna do? Definitely the #1 movie this weekend. A comedy for both the guys and the girls. The Penultimate date movie. Ok, so maybe I'm exaggerating, but I still think this one has all the components you need to do very well in theatres. Young stars in a comedy by Apatow. What more do you need to succeed? This will be the other movie I try to see this weekend, and hopefully review for you guys!

That's it for the movies this weekend... is there anything you want to see? Images to come later!

Movies this Weekend! 4/11/08

ShowHype: hype it up!
I really can't believe how fast the weeks go by. I remember when I was able to post once a day. This blog really did that much better then when I was able to focus on marketing it, and creating quality posts. I still try to do that, but I find myself a lot busier than I was then, especially with the new house, and having a lot of actual work at the day job. Throw in the late nights, and an inability to stay up afterwards, and you have the posting frequency of this blog. I'm also sad that I don't get to comment on as many blogs now, if I do at all, but I still try to keep in touch! I have a ton of blogs on my Newsfire feed reader. That's free now, if you're interested!

I can honestly say that I've missed getting comments on the blog. I do wish there were more, but I can only do so much right now. Still trying to get back into a rhythm. But enough about that, on to what you came here for, the movies this weekend!

Prom Night - Prom is supposed to be one of the best nights of your life, and Donna was ready for just that. She has overcome the horrible tragedy that plagued her, and has managed to enjoy much of her senior year. Unfortunately for her, the night becomes deadly, as the man she thought would be locked up forever has escaped. Donna and her friends must do everything they can to escape from him, and get him locked up again. Will they be able to do it... or will this be their last night?

How's it gonna do - I think this one is supposed to be the big movie for the weekend, but I just don't see it. The movie just seems dumb to me. It does have a slightly redeeming factor in that this type of horror movie could actually happen, and actually has happened recently, with a serial rapist escaping (and being recaptured) right around where I live. Sorry, no killers though . Still, this is the type of movie that will do really well even though it doesn't deserve to... #1 this weekend, unfortunately

Smart People - Lawrence Weatherfold is a widowed and self absorbed literature professor. He has alienated his son, and turned his daughter into an overachiever, albeit with no friends. However, when he falls for one of his students, things begin to change. Add to the picture the arrival of his brother, and Weatherfold realizes that he needs to change himself and get back in touch with his family before he can become more involved with his new love interest.

How's it gonna do - I'm actually fairly excited about this one. First off, it has my new crush in it, Ellen Page. I don't know what it is about the girl, but I find her really cute. I'm not saying that this is going to be a blockbuster or anything, I'm just hoping that it's a pleasant surprise like Juno was. Second of all, I think that the story seems decent, something that I could relate to, I think. I predict that Page and the fairly well known cast will draw to #2 this weekend!

Street Kings - Tom Ludlow is a veteran on the LAPD. He sets out on a quest to find the killers of his former partner, Detective Terrance Washington. Forest Whitaker plays Captain Wander, who must do his best to keep Ludlow in line as he realizes the passion with which Ludlow is pursing the killers. Ludlow ends up partnering with a young Homicide detective, and their determination pays off, as they track down and confront Washington's killer in an attempt to bring them to justice.

How's it gonna do - Judging from just the trailer, I think this movie seems like it could be pretty intense, and looked pretty interesting actually. However, I think that the trailer might be all that this one can deliver though, as I don't see how it could develop much more than it does in said trailer. I could be wrong, but Keanu Reeves without The Matrix just doesn't seem like a good combination for me. That being said, Hugh Laurie is in the film, which could be a redeeming factor.

There you go, the major releases for this week. Not a terrible week, but I still think we're looking for that film that just wows you in 2008. C'mon Hollywood, let's give us something to get excited about!!

Movies This Weekend! 4/4/08

ShowHype: hype it up!
Hi everyon, sorry this post is so late this week, I know that you were looking forward to it, but I've been dealing with some really stressful stuff at home... especially yesterday, and I wasn't able to post. Anyway, I still have a review of 21 that I'd like to get out this week, and I'll try to if I can. Remember, the Carnival of Cinema will be posted here this week, so get your entries in if you'd like to take part! I'm actually going to be reading most of the submissions tonight, can't wait to do that.

But on to the meat of this post, the movies this weekend. As usual, I'm going to focus on the wide releases, but for those of you interested in the other openings, please check out Rotten Tomatoes!

Leatherheads - Set in the 1920s, Leatherheads explores the growth of American football. Dodge Connolly (George Clooney) is a brash, football hero who is trying to lead his team out of barfights and into packed stadiums. To try to boost the popularity of the growing sport, he convinces a hotshot college star to join his team. Carter Rutherford joins the team, a war hero with dashing good looks. The rise of the team brings Lexie Littleton (Renee Zellweger), who thinks Rutherford is too good to be true. This may be the case, and as she delves further and further into Rutherford's past, Connolly and Rutherford become rivals, vying for her affections.

How's it gonna do? For this one, I really have no idea. The concept is interesting, and all guys like football for the most part. This one... is a romantic comedy, which usually screams girls dragging guys to it. If I had to make a prediction (and I'm going to), I say that the ladies win out, and the guys aren't too disappointed because it has football. It might be trying too hard to please everyone, but I think it's a bit of a sleeper hit. Look for this to top the box office this weekend!

Nim's Island - Nim's island is a magical place, ruled by the imagination of a young girl. She bases it on the world of her favorite literary character, Alex Rover, one of the world's greatest adventurers. However, what she doesn't know is that the author of her favorite adventurer lives a reclusive life in the big city. When her father goes missing, she finds herself joined up with the author of Alex Rover. Together, they must call upon their imaginations and the courage of their favorite hero to try to bring her father back.

How's it Gonna do? A kids movie! I think that this one will do fairly well, as most kids movies tend to do. It's really hard to find films that are considered "appropriate" for kids these days, and this might fit the bill. I know some parents don't care, but I personally would, and if I had to pick between this or one of those horror movies that comes out, I would pick this one. Parents won't mind coming to this one with their kids, which will boost it's showing. Still... it's no Horton hears a Who, so I only expect a modest showing. Maybe my opinion will change if I see it.

The Ruins - A Steve B. Smith adaptation of his own novel. A group of vacationeers travels to a ruined site in search of a missing man. However, they are not prepared for what they find, which is much more dangerous than they ever could have imagined....

How's it gonna do? Thank the good Lord this one is rated R. I'm tired of all the little teenyboppers and their friends talking on their cell phones, texting, and running in and out of theatres. At least this will eliminate some of that. That being said, the rating will hurt it at the box office, as many of the people who would come out to see this one are going to be left out of the theatre. The story and preview seem interesting, but not good enough to draw a huge crowd...

That's it for the movies this week. Any opinions on these??

Movies This Weekend! 3/28/08

ShowHype: hype it up!
Hi all, time for another edition of Movies this weekend! First, I want to announce that I'll be hosting the Carnival of Cinema next week, so go ahead and get your entries in for that. It's a great way to gain exposure for those movie blogs! Another great way is to check out the LAMB! Oh, if you're submitting for the carnival next week, the link might be changing (as in that might be for this week), so I'll be sure to update if it is.

Anyway, we've got a few pretty big releases this week (one of which I think will actually make it), so let's get started.

Stop Loss - A military policy preventing a serviceman or woman from retiring once their term of service is over, due to the necessity of their position. Basically known as a backdoor to bring men and women back to the battlegrounds, this policy has affected thousands of Americans through their terms of service. Sargent Brandon King is just another who has been re-recruited back into the military. An emotional drama that follows King, a hero who has fought for America already, as the military tries to bring him back into their ranks.

How's it gonna do - I think that this movie, like most MTV movies with strong messages, will do quite well. It's the lower profile movie of the ones that are opening this weekend, but it does seem pretty interesting. In researching this post, I actually asked someone what it meant. From his response, it does seem that it's an emotionally draining experience. With a million man military, is this really necessary? We won't know for sure, but this one will definitely give us a look into how this affects the lives of those who fight for our country.

Gross wise, this does have strong competition, especially with one of the others opening this week, and holdover from Horton. I hope that this one will make it to #2, but I think that it will most likely be #3 or 4 this weekend. Maybe you guys can change that by going to this one!

Run, Fat Boy, Run - Dennis is a normal guy, who does normal things. He smokes, and is overall, a pretty nice guy. However, a few years ago, when he was at the altar with his pregnant fiance Libby, he ran away. He didn't believe he was good enough for her, so instead of ruining his life, he ran away from the woman he loved. They still see each other all the time because of their 5 year old son, but there is no romantic connection anymore. However, Dennis realizes that he's still in love with Libby. She, on the other hand, has found someone else Now, Dennis must take drastic measures to try to show Libby he is a good person, and try to win her back.

How's it gonna do - I like the concept behind this movie, but actually forgot that it was coming out this week. For some reason, I thought that this was a limited release. Anyway Simon Pegg always seems to have a certain appeal, so I suspect that this film will do quite well. I'm gonna go with #3 for the weekend... and I'll try to see this if I can. My theatre didn't get this one, so it might be a bit tough.

21 - Inspired by a series of true events. Ben Campbell is one of the brightest minds in the country, attending MIT, one of the most prestigious universities in the country. However, he finds that he can't afford the steep tuition bill that comes with having the best education. Ben is recruited into a group of students who go to Las Vegas every weekend and use their minds to turn the blackjack odds in their favor. While counting cards as they're doing is not illegal, they must stay on their heels and try to stay one step ahead of the casino's enforcer as he monitors their behavior very closely.

How's it Gonna do? - This is expected to be the big movie for this weekend, and I think it will be. It's had heavy amounts of advertising, and the story is pretty fetching. MIT's in Boston too... well, Cambridge, but that helps. I enjoy going to casinos, and while I don't have the money to really blow on gambling, it's still a fun place to go, and I enjoy the Buffets. I'll actually be planning a trip to one pretty soon. This is definitely my choice for screening this week, and I'll try to watch enough to get a review in. I've actually seen quite a few movies recently, but just parts of them, not enough to review. :-( Hopefully that changes.

Superhero Movie - From the guys that brought you Scary Movie comes Superhero Movie. After being bitten by a genetically altered dragonfly, Rick Riker gains superpowers, which he decides he will use to fight evil. However, in his way is Lou Landers, who has taught himself the ability to steal the life force of others. As his new persona, the Dragonfly, will Rick be able to take out Lou Landers and save the world?

How's it gonna do - I dunno. I think that these types of movies are getting dumber and dumber. However, Meet the Spartans did fairly well, so we can never underestimate these movies. It makes an appearance at least in the top 5. I think it's #2 for the weekend.

Well, that's all... maybe I've piqued your interest in this one. Make sure to check out the other LAMBs and Fletch for other opinions!

Movies this Weekend! 3/21/08

ShowHype: hype it up!
Hey all, don't forget to help out Mandy in picking a new domain name! Remember, you're helping out a great blogger with each comment, so lets get to it! Also, the person who's suggestion gets picked will be receiving a free movie ticket! Who knows, you might be using it to check out one of these films coming out this week!

Shutter - Based on a Thai thriller movie, Shutter explores what happens when a pair of newlyweds is involved in a terrible accident. They begin seeing distorted images and blurry things they can't explain in their pictures. Could it be that the girl involved in the accident is back for revenge?

How's it gonna do - When you try to predict how well a movie like this will do, all you have to do is check the rating. This one is PG-13. That means that it will do really well since the teenage crowd can get into it. This is usually true for at least Friday evening. After that, the grosses usually drop off. An ok weekend for this one, but don't expect to see it breaking any records. This seems like a tired genre, but good enough for #3 this weekend.

Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns - A romantic drama featuring the return of Madea to the big screen. A single mother living in Chicago, Brenda has been struggling for a long time now to make things work in her family, and trying to keep her kids off the streets. However, Brenda is laid off from her job, and receives word that the father she never knew has died. Not knowing what to do, Brenda brings her family to Georgia for the funeral, where they meet and try to get used to the crass, fun-loving Browns. Brenda also meets a new flame who might provide the turnaround she needs in her life.

How's it gonna do - Another release this week that will appeal to a certain crowd, and usually draws very well. Tyler Perry is a master at bringing his acclaimed stage shows to the big screen, and having them translate really well. Not to mention that Madea is one of the craziest, funny characters I've ever seen in film. I expect this one to do very well, and will hit the #1 spot out of the movies that come out this week. I still expect a holdover from Horton to finish above it...

Drillbit Taylor - Three high school students grow tired of being bullied, so they go out and hire a bodyguard to protect them. Drillbit Taylor, their bodyguard, poses as a teacher at their school in order to keep an eye on them. Co-written by Seth Rogan and produced by Judd Apatow.

How's it gonna do - Well, you throw in the names Seth Rogan and Judd Apatow and you got a hit these days right? It only gets better with Owen Wilson, right? Not so sure about that, but I'm willing to give this one a shot. I still think that the others do better overall this weekend, but that is, of course, not saying that this is the worst movie this week. I think it is the second best quality of film, but won't perform the second best. Also... where did they come up with this name??

Did you see anything you'd want to see this weekend? I'm not particularly sure that any of these will do well, but be sure to check out Fletch for another opinion on these films!

Movies This Weekend! 3/14/08

ShowHype: hype it up!
Ahhh, just finished watching a movie that I should probably be ashamed to admit that I liked. lol. Oh well, I'll let you guys know anyway. I watched She's The Man... and it's a pretty cute movie. I can say that there are some nice things to look at in this one... for guys and girls. One of the first times I hung out with my current girlfriend was to see this movie. I was pissed because they wouldn't let me off early to catch the whole movie, but it was good nonetheless. I'm gonna turn on some Enterprise soon, but here are the movies for this weekend:

Dr. Seuss's Horton Hears a Who - From the brilliant mind of Theodore Seuss Geisel, Horton Hears a Who comes to the big screen. In the Jungle of Nool, Horton the elephant hears what he thinks are screams for help from a tiny speck. Little does he know that an entire civilization lies in that speck, inhabited by the microscopic Whos. Despite the reactions of his friends, Horton will do whatever he can to save the speck, because "an Elephant's faithful 100%".

How's it gonna do? - Definitely a kids movie, and another in the Dr. Seuss series. These have always been pretty successful, and bring the children out in droves. Look for this one to perform very well, especially with that G rating backing it. I actually want to see this one, I think. It has Steve Carell, who I really like, and its CG. Can't go wrong with CG right? Just kidding. Check it out if you love Seuss or are in need of a nice kid flick. Maybe 25 million gross. Definitely not bad. Already got a good rating on the ol Tomatometer.

Never Back Down - Jake Tyler is the new kid in town, a tough guy who likes to lead with his fists. His family has just moved to Orlando to help support his younger brother's budding tennis career while Jake, a star football player back home, is left on the outside, and develops a reputation as a hot tempered fighter. At a party, he is drawn into a fight. Humiliated and defeated in the fight, a classmate introduces him to the world of MMA, and finds him a mentor. It is now up to Jake to master this, and find the patience and skill he needs to succeed.

How's it gonna do - Seems like this one is trying to be Fight Club... but it's not. It's going to have some intense action scenes, but the PG-13 rating means it will probably be pretty tame by the standards set by Fight Club. This one just doesn't have the same appeal. I don't think this one even breaks the top 5....

Doomsday - From the twisted director/writer that brought you The Descent comes Doomsday. When the reaper virus strikes the first time, authorities brutally quarantine a country. It's inhabitants succumb to fear and chaos. Little did they expect that the virus would resurface in a major city, and troops are dispatched to the quarantine area to hopefully find a cure. As they fight their way through, they realize that this quarantine area is quickly becoming a nightmare.

How's it gonna do? - I think that this one has potential to be great. Kinda reminds me of Escape from NY, but a newer version. I am going to screen this one on Thursday. Supposedly, this is one of the goriest, twisted movies that has come out this year. Already sounds delightful. Rated R, so no kiddies allowed. Should be fun for me checking IDs, but the rating hurts it at the box office. #3, behind Dr. Seuss and one other.

That's it for the major releases coming out this weekend. Bedtime for me... Anything you're interested in?

Movies This Weekend! 3/7/08

ShowHype: hype it up!
No feedback yet on whether anyone would be interested in having the movie releases as a newsletter, so you'll have to come here for that! :-) I type this one out as I watch Planet Terror, which I'm ashamed to say I didn't see in theatres. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices on what you see, especially when the lady is not interested. I get my occasional fixes... but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Watchin movies on HD is not bad at all. Saw Eragon in HD today as well.

Now, without further ado... your movies for this weekend.

The Bank Job - Based on the true story of a 1971 bank robbery that took place in London. Terry (played by Jason Statham), is a shady car salesman who has always avoided the big time scam. However, when he is offered the lead on a hot tip for robbing a bank, he knows that he has found an opportunity he cannot refuse. It doesn't help that he is being offered this by a beautiful model, Martine. She instructs him to target the safety deposit boxes in the bank. Little does Terry realize that the boxes contain secrets that lead to a web of corruption that spans all of England. Now Terry is in the middle of it all....

How's it gonna do? - I think that this one will do fairly well, though what concerns me is that it has some pretty stiff competition. Statham is always one to make a great action movie (for the most part anyway), and I believe that this one will deliver. The only gripe I have with Statham is that he always seems to play the same character. Stick to your strengths though, I guess. Look for this one to be number 2 this weekend, just because of the competition. It could be a #1 without as much.

10,000 BC - An epic movie exploring an age of gods and mythological creatures, where mammoths and other fascinating creatures roam the world. In this story, the hunter D'Leh has found his true love. However, when a raiding warlord attacks his village and kidnaps D'Leh's true love, he leads a small band of hunters to try to get her back. Through their journey, they find civilizations beyond their wildest dreams. At each stop, they find more who have been attacked by the same warlord, and his small band quickly becomes an army. Using this army, he makes a stand against the god who has been enslaving his own people.

How's it Gonna do? - I personally think this one looks great. I love the Epic movies, and this will be the one that I would like to screen if I get the chance. It looks to have incredible special effects, and a ton of action. Just the kind of movie that I'd like to see. I would say that this one will be the number one movie this weekend. It looks like it's has the best promotion of all the movies this weekend, and I think a lot of people know about it, so... yeah. I think it's going to be awesome. :-)

College Road Trip - Martin Lawrence is the local police chief, who is extremely overbearing on his daughter. She will be going away soon though, as she heads to college. Which one to go to though? To help her make her decision, she has planned an all-girls college road trip to visit all the schools she is thinking about attending. Her father, however, has other things in mind, and insists on taking her around himself. What else could possibly go wrong?

How's it Gonna do? - Meh. This is the kids movie for the week, though I think there are better options out there. It does make me wonder what would have happened if I had gone on a road trip for college. Unfortunately for this, from the previews, it seems like this is more annoying than anything else. It seems just a bit too over the top for me.

That's it for the major releases this week. I'll edit with the limited releases later... it's getting late.

What do you want to see?

Movies This Weekend! 2/29/08

ShowHype: hype it up!
Wow, I can't believe its the end of February already. Overall, I think it wasn't that bad for movies, but nothing overly impressive either. I only saw a couple movies... not usual for a film buff like me. Just kidding, I really don't have too much time for movies unless I'm screening them..... which I will be doing this Thursday :-).

That being said, here are my options!

Semi-Pro - The latest Will Ferrell movie. It's 1976, and Jackie Moon is the owner/player/coach of a fairly unsuccessful American Basketball Association team. He learns that the ABA is going to be merged with the NBA, and is extremely excited. However, things change when he finds out that his team is not one of the teams that will be merged. Not to be defeated, Moon suggests that the teams with the best records should be the ones to be merged. The league accepts his idea, and Moon must work hard promoting his team, while at the same time trying to win games so they can join the NBA elite.

How's it Gonna Do? - Well, I can already pretty much guarantee that this is gonna be the #1 movie this weekend. That's usually how Will Ferrell movies do. However, I can't say that I'm overly excited for this one. It's the same role that Mr. Ferrell has been doing for the past 5 years or so. It's going to have its moments, that's for sure. It will be a fun screening movie, but don't go into expecting too much, and you'll leave amused.

Penelope - Penelope is a young woman with a special blessing. That blessing just happens to be a pig's nose for her nose. Every time she finds a guy, and they see her nose, they take the quickest way out possible.... which is usually the second floor window. Will she be able to find true love?

How's it gonna do? - Well, this is definitely an interesting concept. I can't say that I've heard of this one before, and I'm not even sure that my theatre is going to get the movie, but I can say that if we did, I would like to see it. I like Christina Ricci (Penelope), and it just seems like it could be a nice, funny movie. It's not going to have a huge impact at the box office by any means (in my opinion anyway), but it could be an ok film.

The Other Boleyn Girl - Based on the novel by Phillipa Gregory, this film tells the story of two sisters who are driven by their father to pursue the King of England. Of course, he has selfish reasons as he is trying to enhance the power of his own family by getting them closer to the King. When Mary (Scarlett Johannsen) wins the affections of the king, becoming his mistress, her sister, Anne (Natalie Portman) is not to be denied. She sidesteps her sister, and the Queen. Anne will not stop until she has reached the ultimate goal, becoming Queen herself.

How's it gonna do? - A history lesson that might actually be fun to watch, and its not hurt at all by having two of the most beautiful women in hollywood in it. I remember reading about it a lot in high school, and I never thought this story had these sort of twists in it. I'm interested, but at the same time, it feels a little old fashioned. Don't know how into the history love story I am. I think that there will be those who are interested though. #3 for the week.

Not terrible for major releases this week. I'll be sure to let you guys know how Semi-Pro is after seeing it on Thursday. Here are your limited releases for the week:

Unforseen
Chicago 10
City of Men
Bonneville
Beyond Belief
Vivere

Hope you guys have enjoyed! Are any of you going to the movies this weekend?

Movies This Weekend! 2/14/08

ShowHype: hype it up!
Hey all, time for the weekly movies update. Seems like this is the only post I'm getting in recently. I actually tried to blog over at the new place yesterday, but it took so long to get the internet set up (wireless) that I wasn't able to. Dang security settings on the wireless. On the plus side, it looks like I have a pretty strong signal in my new room, so it should be great for the blogging. I've also adjusted my hours at work, so I should have more time to blog.... though it is making me tired more quickly. I'm actually pretty tired right now, but I'll pull through for this update!

I'll also be trying to comment more on your blogs.... I know I've been lacking in comments but I have been reading. Great stuff guys... keep it up and I'll work at the comments. Trying to build this blog back up to what it once was!

Anyway, onto the movies for the weekend. Early releases this week, with movies coming out on Valentine's day (Thursday) instead of Friday. I'm pretty excited about a lot of the movies that come out this week.. so without further ado:

The Spiderwick Chronicles - Based on the bestselling book series. Strange things begin to happen to the Grace family when they move into the New York home of their great great uncle, Arthur Spiderwick. Unable to find the cause of the strange occurrences in their home, the family blames Jared. As Jared and his twin, along with their sister Mallory try to find out the real cause, they uncover the real secrets of the Spiderwick Estate.

How's it gonna do - I'm really excited about this one. I love the fantasy type movies, like Harry Potter, and this one seems like that. I've been looking at the banner every day at work, and it just gets me more excited. A must see for me I think. I'll probably watch it tomorrow! :-)

Definitely, Maybe - Starring Ryan Reynolds as Will Hayes, a father in his 30s going through a divorce. His daughter (played by Abigail Breslin), wants to know more about how her parents met and fell in love. Will takes her through an idealistic story of a young politician, learning the ways of New York City, and his relationship with three different women. However, he changes the name of the women, and leaves his daughter to guess which one is her mom.

How's it gonna do - I think this one has pretty good potential as a RomCom. It's story seems a bit more serious than last week's big hit Fools Gold, but I think it could be perfect for the upcoming hallmark holiday. I have a feeling there will be several ladies dragging their men to this movie this weekend. I've heard good things though guys, so it shouldn't be as horrible as you might think! It cracks the top 3, ending up as.... #3.

Step Up 2 The Streets - The sequel to the wildly popular Step Up. This one follows the story of the rebellious dancer, Andie. She is trying to fit in at the elite Maryland School of the Arts. Here, she meets Chase, one of the hottest dancers at the school. This one brings back much of the original crew from the first movie.

How's it gonna do - Sorry for the bad synopsis, but it just kinda ended on Rotten Tomatoes. Anyway, I'm pretty excited about this one too. I enjoyed the first one after being forced to watch it, and this one has Briana Evigan. She's smokin in the trailers, and I can't wait to see her on the big screen!

Jumper - An Adaptation of Steven Gould's novels of people who can transport themselves through time and space. Starring Hayden Christiansen and Samuel L. Jackson. Also featuring Rachel Bilson.

How's it gonna do - This one has an interesting concept, and it looks action packed, so I think it could do quite well. If I weren't so interested in Spiderwick, I would see this one tomorrow. This one is going to be good, but it also has stiff competition this weekend, which could hurt its overall numbers. A top 5 finish for sure.

That's it for the major releases this weekend. I'm not going to mention the limited releases for now cuz I've been working on this post for about an hour now... lol. Guess I'm not the quickest blogger, that's for sure. I will take my pick for #1 this week. I think it's going to be... and I'm reaching here... Step Up 2. The first one was wildly popular, and this one has some hot songs and dancing going on in it. Here's the trailer!

Movies This Weekend! 2/1/08

ShowHype: hype it up!
Hiiii everyone. Welcome back! It's Tuesday, so its time to discuss what movies are coming out this weekend, so that YOU can make an informed decision when you go to the movies. Ok I'm just kidding, you don't HAVE to listen to me, but you can leave comments!

This weekend is a bit weak in my opinion, but who knows, we might have a gem in there somewhere. I certainly didn't expect Meet the Spartans to top the box office last weekend, but lo and behold, there it was. I give myself credit that I picked that movie to watch, and I did watch it so I'll provide a review for ya tomorrow... just so this post can stay up top.

Here we go....

Strange Wilderness - Animal enthusiast Peter Gaulk and his buddy Fred Wolf host a nature show that is slowly dying. In an attempt to save his show, Peter and his colleagues set out to find the one creature that could save their show.... none other than Bigfoot.

Hows it gonna do? - Um... I'm not sure about this one. I've loved the trailer with the shark and found myself impersonating it many a time. However, I just don't see this one doin it for me. I could be wrong, and I might end up catching a few minutes of it during work to see if I am wrong, but I don't picture this one doing well at all. It's rated R, so you know that it's gonna be raunchy. (Gonna be a headache to babysit all the kids tryin to see this one, another reason I'm not looking forward to it)

Well.. that's one down. Let's look and see what else we got in store for us this week.....

Over Her Dead Body - Devastated by the loss of his fiancee, Kate, on their wedding day, Henry agrees to see a psychic (at the urging of his sister) to see if he can get some contact with Kate. Unable to speak to Kate through the psychic, Henry still finds himself falling for the psychic! However, she (the psychic) is now being haunted by Kate's ghost, who decides its her duty to break up the two of them if its the last thing she does!

How's It gonna do? - This one is a cute... date movie I think. I'm sure that some ladies will be dragging their men to this movie. Guys, Eva Longoria Parker is in this one, so that could be something to look forward to in the movie. It has a nice concept, but it doesn't scream blockbuster at all. I think it'll have enough in it to make it to #3 at the Box office at best.

Alright that's two duds in my opinion. So what else to we got? One more major release, according to my source (Rotten Tomatoes). And that one is.........

The Eye - Sydney Wells is an accomplished concert pianist. However, since she was young, she has been blind. However, her dreams come true when a set of eyes becomes available, and she has surgery to restore her sight. With the help of her sister, Sydney begins to learn how to see again. Soon afterwards, she begins seeing strange apparitions and images that no one else can see. People begin to question her sanity as she describes what she sees. However, she needs to figure out if these real or not. Sydney believes someone may have opened up her eyes to a world only she can see....

How's it Gonna do? - Well, I think this one has an interesting concept, and it's got Jessica Alba. Again, I don't see blockbuster with this one, but Jessica will pull people into those seats. This thriller will be the one that the teens will come out in droves to see, much like One Missed Call before it.

Well, that's it for our major releases this week. Again, there are several limited releases, and here they are:

Caramel
Vivere
Silence before Bach

Also coming out this week is the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus in concert digital show. I know that this is/has been sold out for weeks, and tons of little critters (you may know them as "kids") may be crowding your local theatre this week. Just keep that in mind.

All that being said, my pick of the week (Not that it'll be #1) is.... The Eye. Sorry, I have a thing for Jessica Alba. :-) Here's the trailer:

There you have it.. movies this weekend! What are you going to see? Something new? or something Old?

Movies this Weekend! 1/25/08

ShowHype: hype it up!
Woohoo, time to do this again! I was just watching some TV, and I realized that there are actualy a ton of movies that are coming out this week, some of which I am actually interested in seeing! You ever find that happening to you? You're watching your favorite TV show, like House, then all of a sudden, a trailer comes on for a movie and you just think... I have to see that. Well, maybe it wasn't that serious, but they did make me think about them again, so I guess their advertisement is working. Anyway, let's get onto the movies! (I'll try to find pictures that don't get removed this time....where do you guys normally get yours?)

How She Move - An inspired story about a young woman, gifted in step dancing, who will do anything to get out of her tough neighborhood and find her big break. Featuring dancing choreographed by Hi Hat and an appearance by R&B sensation Keyshia Cole, this high energy feature looks to inspire and energize.

How's it Gonna Do? - Eh. Not for me. I have been impressed with movies that feature step dancing before, namely Stomp the Yard, but for some reason, this one just doesn't do it for me. They are aiming for a certain crowd though, and it could break out like the aforementioned Yard. It was a hit a Sundance, which is a good sign for it, but it does have a lot of competition this weekend. In my opinion, you should wait for the second Step Up movie, which is due to be released on Valentine's Day. I know I'm going to.

Untraceable - Special Agent Jennifer Marsh works in the FBI's Cyber Crime division, hunting down online criminals and predators. She's seen and dealt with it all, until the division comes across a website that displays graphic murders, with the killings happening more quickly depending on how many people visit. Determined to track down this killer, the hunt becomes personal, with Marsh's family in jeopardy along with her. She is in a race against the clock to find this untraceable killer.

How's It Gonna Do? - I actually think this one will do pretty decently. It has a good viral premise, which appeals to me because I've been trying to create sites with viral content... haven't succeeded yet. I am curious to know that if something like this really happened, how viral would it become. Would people actually visit more and more despite what is happening when they visit? I will probably check this one out. 50% chance of viewing. (Stealing the Fletch system again)

Rambo? - Sylvester Stallone returns to the big screen with one of his most popular characters , Rambo. After a long hiatus, Rambo is out for blood once again. Having retreated to Northern Thailand, and putting all the violence behind him, he is still in the middle of one of the longest Civil Wars of all time. After helping a missionary group bring aid and supplies to Burma, he is informed that the group did not return when they were supposed to, and that funds are being raised to hire mercenaries to help bring them back. Despite his training and wars being far behind him, John Rambo knows what he must do.

How's It Gonna Do? - This one is quite a mystery. I know that it's not going to be as good as the previous Rambo movies. While Rocky did work, since he was supposed to age and it was a blaze of glory going out movie. I don't feel that this is the same thing. I think in this instance, Stallone is trying too hard to revive this character. Rambo's time has passed... and I'll pass too.

Meet the Spartans - A parody movie from the minds that brought you Epic Movie. Nuff Said.

How's it Gonna Do? - Just like all the other ones. Some will love it, and others will wish it was never made.

So that's it for all of the commercial releases this week. There ARE several other movies being released, with the U2:3D movie being of note. That being said, I do have catch-up to do with movies that I haven't seen yet.

However, my pick of the week is: Meet the Spartans - I think it's just going to be enjoyable!

Movies this Weekend! 1/18/08

ShowHype: hype it up!
Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of posting recently. I need to update a lot of things, I know, and I hope that you'll be patient with me! I feel like I'm asking that a lot, but my internet has been less than cooperative lately. I promise that this will change when I move over to our new home, and I get some kick butt internet. Posting will definitely increase then.

Anyway, I hope that I am able to post this tonight. This is a pretty big movie weekend, with three major releases, and quite a few notable limited releases. Let's get started. Pictures to come later.

27 Dresses - Starring Katherine Heigl as a "forever bridesmaid". Jane (Heigl) has been a bridesmaid 27 different times, and has never found a love of her own. (I keep misspelling bridesmaid as bridge... I don' know why) Things change when her sister (Tess) gets introduced to Jane's boss, who Jane is secretly in love with. As she helps to plan her sister's wedding, Jane begins to re-evaluate her life, and try to find the love of her life that she is looking for.

How's it Gonna do? - Well, I mentioned before that I'll probably have to see this one. I think that this one could actually perform pretty decently, and be a pretty good movie too. It's from the same people that brought us the smash hit The Devil Wears Prada, which I admit I enjoyed very much. That, and it has the always spunky Katherine Heigl, who has been on fire since she made Knocked Up. I'm going to say that this one hits number 2 this weekend, as it faces stiff competition.

Mad Money - Starring Diane Keaton, Queen Latifah, and Katie Holmes. These three women play characters who form an unlikely bond when they work as janitors, unable to find better jobs, and without the ability to advance. They scheme and amass a large sum of money, and think that they have pulled off the perfect scheme until a misstep alerts the authorities. The women are forced to use all of their ingenuity to stay one step ahead of the law.

How's it Gonna Do? - I dunno about this one. It's got an ok concept, and could work as a straight comedy, which is what I think they're aiming for. However, I'm not sure it's got what it takes, especially with the competition that they have to face this week. I just don't think this trio works well together, and I'm not particularly looking forward to Katie Holmes' return to the big screen. I used to have a thing for her, but I just don't see it anymore.

Cloverfield - A viral movie starring.... who knows what! All you know is that whatever it is, it's winning. The people of New York (I think) are being terrorized by an unknown creature. Follow the journey of a group of people as they try to survive the terrifying ordeal.

How's it Gonna Do? - I think this is the clear cut winner for the week. There's been so much viral hype about it... a lot of which you can check out on Film School Rejects. I'm dying to know what the creature really is, and I'm willing to bet that a lot of other people are as well! The number one movie of the week, hands down. I've heard that it could be another Godzilla movie... which could be a good or a bad thing.

In addition to these great offerings, there's also Teeth, which is supposed to be quite interesting as well. I don't know too much about it, but I've seen the trailer for it and it was a little disturbing.... it could be really good though.

What are you planning on seeing this weekend?

Movies This Weekend!

ShowHype: hype it up!
Edit: Looks Like I was right about this one... my buddies over at Film School Rejects gave it a D+. Check out the review: One Missed Call

Hi everyone, I know this is really late, but the holidays have once again cut into my posting time.. I've actually been spending time out and hanging out with real people. I miss my blogging buddies, so I knew I had to get this one out. How was your New Year? Good? Awesome? I hope that it was awesome. I went over a friend's house and we played outburst. Now I need to go out and buy that game for the new house.

Anyway, on to the movies! There is one major release this weekend, so I'm going to go a bit more in depth about it. The release this week is One Missed Call.

The basic premise behind this movie is that before you die, you will receive a call straight to voicemail. Upon listening to the voicemail, you will hear your own death. While you can delete the message, your number is still up. The movie follows a group of people who have this happen to them, and how they try to avoid and ultimately solve the mystery behind the deaths.

While this could have been a great concept if it were released a few years ago, it appears to be trying to follow in the footsteps of previous horror thrillers too much, with some of those being absolutely terrible. The Ring provided a good introduction into this genre, with technology causing deaths, etc, but the films that have followed, such as Fear dot com, and now One Missed Call, appear to be trying too much.

To add even more, it's only rated PG-13, so it's not going to be a terribly gruesome movie or have something else that horror junkies are looking for. The studio releasing it picked a good week with no competition, but I can honestly say that I have little to no interest in seeing this one. I don't think I'm even going to be screening this one...

It might be a week to catch up on a movie that you may have missed. I recently saw I am Legend (which I still need to review for y'all), which was excellent. Alvin and the Chipmunks has also been performing very well, and has had me singing the "Witch Doctor" song as I help clean the theatre, lol.

Well, if you're still interested in the movie, here is a trailer for it. I'm disappointed that this is the initial offering for this year, but it still looks to be a great year for movies, so stay tuned, it's going to get better!

What will it sound like when you die?

Movies this Weekend!

ShowHype: hype it up!
I'm sorry about the late update folks, but I've been going out to a lot of holiday parties with people from the day job. As I am still a bit strapped for time.. here's the trailers for the movies that are coming out this weekend (wide release). Let me know if you like this format better!

National Treasure 2:

P.S. I Love You
:

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story -

Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber of Fleet Street:

Charlie Wilson's War:

Phew.
I think I did that in record time. Hopefully there are still readers/viewers here. I've heard nothing but good things for National Treasure 2... so I think that ones the one to check out this weekend. I've got a nice customer story for you guys too.. that'll come when I get some more time!

Movies This Weekend!

ShowHype: hype it up!
Hey, we've finally got a slew of movies coming out, a couple of which I am actually interested in! This is a bit late, but I fell asleep, so please forgive me. Let's see... where do we start...

Edit: I can't seem to get an internet connection... so this is later than planned.

Alvin and the Chipmunks - Alvin and his buddies make their live action debut with the help of CGI. They help cause mischief in the life of their guardian, Dave Seville (Jason Lee). What better than a bunch of talking chipmunks??

How I think it will do - This one definitely appeals to the kid in me. I just can't wait to hear 'ALLLLVIIIIIN' screamed about on the big screen. And they did a really good job integrating the CGI chipmunks. This movie looks to be really cute. Let's just hope that it does better than Garfield, right? I'm giving this one second this weekend, but it should do ok through the holidays!

I Am Legend - Will Smith plays a brilliant scientist who cannot stop a deadly virus that has either mutated or killed most of mankind. Somehow immune, he is the last living person that he has seen for the past 3 years, and must work to find a cure for the disease using his own immune blood.

How I think it will do - This one is my pick for tops this weekend. There is so much hype behind this movie, and who kicks butt on aliens or mutants better than Will Smith? With some good reviews already behind it, let's just hope that Will Smith ruining the ending doesn't affect its performance at the box office. I don't think that it should, but hey, some people are really picky about those kinds of things. My top choice movie this weekend.

Perfect Christmas - A feel good movie about Christmas, this one stars Gabrielle Union as a single mother of three, who is so busy raising her kids she forgets to take care of herself. Determined to have a good Christmas, she brings her kids to meet Santa. One of her kids is determined to make her mom happy again, and tells Santa that all she wanted was a compliment from a man. Santa turns out to be an office supply worker who provides Union's character with that, and much more.

How I think it will do - This is like I said, a feel good Christmas movie. It will appeal to the african american crowd as its aimed, and also to those looking for a christmas movie. Think Diary of a Mad Black Woman but at christmastime! :-)

Of course there are other movies opening this weekend. Once again we've got a large slew of limited releases.

Half Moon
Look
The Kite Runner
Goodbye Bafana
Youth without Youth
Arranged
Changing the Odds
Shotgun Stories
Nanking

Movies This Weekend!

ShowHype: hype it up!
Alright, I know I'm not perfect, but there was no excuse to miss last week's post! I don't even remember what happened, but I know that I didn't get it out. I'm sorry folks. I wish that I were a better blogger. However, hopefully you will forgive me, and continue to read on about the movies that are going to be shown this weekend!

Here we go.... what's this... ONE MOVIE????? GASP. :-(. Promise me you will still go to the movies. Right...? You will???! Yay!!!! :-).

Awake - From the Weinstein Co, Jessica Alba and Hayden Christiansen star in a psychological thriller about "anesthetic awareness". A phenomenon in which the patient is fully awake during anesthesia but paralyzed so that they cannot move, Christiansen's character faces this, while his new bride (Alba) must struggle with her own demons as a terrifying drama envelopes them.

How I think it will do - Well.. it has Jessica Alba, so that will help. However, with this "wide" release that is not coming to every theatre, the gross will most certainly be less than spectacular. Look for one of the remaining films to continue at the top, while Awake should break into the top 5. I'd like to see it, but I'm pretty confident this one won't be a blockbuster.

More Movies! Limited Releases!!!

The Rage
Protagonist
The Savages
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
Teeth
The Rocket
Oswald's Ghost
Badland
Aaja Nachle
Sex and Breakfast
Undoing
Buddha's Lost Children
The Sasquatch Gang
Mama's Boy
Divine Intervention
Chronicle of an Escape

Well, I suppose if you can't find a wide release you want to see, you can go check out your local indie theatre or megaplex to catch one of these fine offerings. Of course when I say "fine offerings", take that with a grain of salt because I haven't seen any of these. You can find write ups of these over at Rotten Tomatoes, or IMDB.

I've got to take a bit of time and catch up on my other blogs, but I'm glad that you've continued to read while I've been away... I've got to catch up on yours too!

Beowulf opening tonight!

ShowHype: hype it up!
If anyone is looking foward to this movie like I am, Beowulf is opening tonight in many theatres, with the first showing being at 9:30 PM. This is an excellent way to beat the rush that's sure to come this weekend. It's a highly anticipated movie, with releases in traditional film, digital, digital 3-D, and IMAX 3-D. I guess with this kind of hype, its got to be pretty epic.

Oh, if you're interested, I have a post over at Film School Rejects about Digital Projection. Pretty interesting industry news.

Anyway, if you're like me, you had to read Beowulf in english class during High School. I didn't particularly enjoy it then, but for some reason, I'm really psyched about this movie opening. It's too bad that it opens early actually, because that means that I can't screen it!

There are already some reviews in:
Beowulf and Grendel is a masterful film that fleshes out the decidedly one-sided epic poem, bringing Grendel to life with a humanity and warmth that adds layers of meaning to the old tale. - From Cinematical

Beowulf is a solemnly gorgeous, at times borderline stolid piece of Tolkien-with-a-joystick mythology. - Entertainment Weekly
And many more than you can find over at Rotten Tomatoes and other sites. I'm going to try to see it in IMAX 3-D myself and ::gasp:: pay for it. Hard to believe, but I might just do it. I might take advantage of that deal that I mentioned a bit back. I don't know if it will work for IMAX though. Anyway, if you'd like, use my search box and find tickets for it now, I'm sure they'll be in huge demand this weekend!

Movies This Weekend!

ShowHype: hype it up!
Gettin this one in a bit earlier than usual this week (I think). Looks like the long weekend didn't provide more time for blogging for me. I wish it did, but I filled it with a plethora of other things, like furniture and car shopping, and also eating out at a few restaurants. I guess I'm no John Chow, so I won't spare you the details of my meal. I will however, provide you with some details on movies opening this weekend!

Beowulf - The movie based on the olde English epic poem. Beowulf does battle against Grendel and his extremely seductive mother (Angelina Jolie). An epic battle between a heroic warrior and a hellish beast.

How I think it will do - This one looks like it's going to do really well. Opening in Digital 3-D as well as IMAX Digital 3-D, this one is taking advantage of all the latest technology. Combined with the incredible amount of star power in this film, we've got the makings of a Hollywood blockbuster. It opens early on Thursday nights at 9:30, so go ahead and use my search box to go search for those tickets! :-) #1 this weekend.

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium - Mr. Magorium's emporium is one of the strangest, most fascinating toy stores around. It only asks one thing of you, and that is that you believe it when you see it. A magical toy store, everything inside, including the store itself come to life. When new owners come in and they don't believe what the store has to offer, kooky things happen.

How I think it will do - This one will definitely appeal to the kids. It looks like a really cute, family film, and that's exactly the kind of people that will be coming to see this movie. I actually think it looks intriguing, and it's the perfect time for this type of movie. Thanksgiving night, this one should be pretty popular. It should help to put people in the holiday mood where Fred Claus did not!

Southland Tales - A follow up to the hit Donnie Darko. Set in a futuristic version of Los Angeles where people are harvesting the power of the ocean to produce energy. Not too much else I've read about it.

How I think it will do - Based on the few words I've read about it, it seems like it could be an ok movie. It's got a ton of stars on it, so it could do ok. It's a bit darker, so it might be the movie that those that don't see Beowulf will go see. I kind of like the Sci-Fi premise that this one has, so I wouldn't mind seeing it. Plus it has JT in it, which I'm sure the girlfriend will love! Now I just have to convince her. I'd still rather see Beowulf though.

Love in the time of Cholera - (From Rotten Tomatoes) Stone Village Pictures presents one of the greatest love stories ever told, based on the timeless masterpiece by Nobel Prize-winning author Gabriel Garcia Marquez …Love in the Time of Cholera. Spanning a half-century in the complex, magical and sensual city of Cartagena, Colombia, the sweeping romantic epic tells the story of a man who waits over fifty years for his one true love. Academy Award nominee Javier Bardem stars as Florentino Ariza, who discovers his life’s passion when he sees Fermina Daza (Giovanna Mezzogiono) through the window of her father’s villa. Though Florentino’s letters awaken the young beauty’s subdued heart, her father (John Leguizamo) demands that she marry into one of Cartagena’s grand families and forbids her from seeing him. As years go by, Fermina marries the sophisticated and sensible Dr. Juvenal Urbino (Benjamin Bratt), who has brought order and medicine to Cartagena, stemming the waves of cholera that have mysteriously haunted the city. Juvenal sweeps her off to Paris for a lengthy honeymoon, and when they begin their life together back home, she has all but forgotten her first love. But Florentino has not forgotten her. Now a wealthy shipowner, Florentino engages in a series of affairs but still yearns for Fermina. His heart is patient, and he will wait a lifetime for the chance to be with her again.

How I think it will do - Now normally I write my own stuff for the movies, using information from other sites, but I knew so little about this one that I didn't really know what to say about it. That being said, it'll be really hard to say how this one will do. I think it'll do ok where it gets released, but having heard so little about it, I don't think many other people have as well, so it shouldn't put up huge numbers.

More Movies!!!! Limited Releases!!!

Half-Moon
Smiley Face
Redacted
Margot at the Wedding
Eleven Men Out
I for India

That's all for now!! Definitely more to come later. I have so much that I still have to write about, it so hard to keep track sometimes. Hey if you're looking for more movie stuff, you can check me out over at Film School Rejects if you haven't gotten your fix of me yet! :-) But then please come back here and browse my archives! Over 120 posts!

Phew, I remembered this post this week! It helps me decide what movie I want to potentially watch on Thursdays, so you would think that I would never forget. Anyway, the limited release bonanaza has returned this week, though there are still only a few openings wide. This might be just the thing that Hollywood is looking for because they did pretty well last weekend. Speaking of that, I want to add the box office widget back to my site... lost it back then when I foolishly tried to redesign. Anyway, here we go with the movies! (Poster Images from Rotten Tomatoes)

Lions for Lambs - Two students from a West Coast College follow the inspiration of their professor and do something important with their lives. They head to Afghanistan and join the battle. As they fight for their lives out in the field, they find that they are the link between two disparate stories on the opposite coasts of America. Through their trials and the political battles being fought back home, they become closer, and realize that each one of them has an important impact on the world.

How I think it will do - I admit that I haven't heard too much about this movie, but given the topic I think it will have a decent showing. It's got a lot of star power in Robert Redford, Meryl Streep, and Tom Cruise (I know.) It looks like it could be a really compelling drama. It could hit the top of the box office, but I'm not quite sure about that yet. I do think we are getting this movie, and we are a smaller theatre, so it could have huge expectations.

Fred Claus - Fred has always lived in the shadow of his little brother. No matter what he does, he can't live up to him. They have grown up to be the exact opposite, with Nicholas being the greatest giver, while Fred is a Repo man who steals what he repossesses. After landing in jail, he is bailed out by his little brother, under the condition that he works back his debt by making toys. However, Fred isn't exactly an elf, and the problems that he causes could drive his brother to the brink of insanity.

How I think it will do - I think this is a bit early for a Christmas movie. Thanksgiving day is more appropriate. I do like Vince Vaughn, however, this movie looks a bit too cheesy for me. The plot looks ok but I can't really see myself seeing this one. Knowing that its coming out does turn on the Christmas spirit in me though, and that good feeling might drive some people to seeing this movie.

P2 - Angela is the last one at her office, determined to close another deal before she leaves the office. When she goes to her car, she finds the garage deserted and her car won't start. A security guard comes by to help and invites her to stay with him and share Christmas with him. She is then knocked unconscious and tied up in his office. If she's going to make it home to her family, she has to find her way out of the garage alive.

How I think it will do - Uhh.. This plot doesn't seem too great. However, it is kinda cool that the movie theatre I used to work at was located on Level P2. That would be the interesting factor for me. The trailers look ok, but I'm not expecting anything big out of it. It makes it to the top 10, but that's about it. It's also not getting as wide a release as the others being released this week.
