Movies this Weekend! 1/18/08

ShowHype: hype it up!
Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of posting recently. I need to update a lot of things, I know, and I hope that you'll be patient with me! I feel like I'm asking that a lot, but my internet has been less than cooperative lately. I promise that this will change when I move over to our new home, and I get some kick butt internet. Posting will definitely increase then.

Anyway, I hope that I am able to post this tonight. This is a pretty big movie weekend, with three major releases, and quite a few notable limited releases. Let's get started. Pictures to come later.

27 Dresses - Starring Katherine Heigl as a "forever bridesmaid". Jane (Heigl) has been a bridesmaid 27 different times, and has never found a love of her own. (I keep misspelling bridesmaid as bridge... I don' know why) Things change when her sister (Tess) gets introduced to Jane's boss, who Jane is secretly in love with. As she helps to plan her sister's wedding, Jane begins to re-evaluate her life, and try to find the love of her life that she is looking for.

How's it Gonna do? - Well, I mentioned before that I'll probably have to see this one. I think that this one could actually perform pretty decently, and be a pretty good movie too. It's from the same people that brought us the smash hit The Devil Wears Prada, which I admit I enjoyed very much. That, and it has the always spunky Katherine Heigl, who has been on fire since she made Knocked Up. I'm going to say that this one hits number 2 this weekend, as it faces stiff competition.

Mad Money - Starring Diane Keaton, Queen Latifah, and Katie Holmes. These three women play characters who form an unlikely bond when they work as janitors, unable to find better jobs, and without the ability to advance. They scheme and amass a large sum of money, and think that they have pulled off the perfect scheme until a misstep alerts the authorities. The women are forced to use all of their ingenuity to stay one step ahead of the law.

How's it Gonna Do? - I dunno about this one. It's got an ok concept, and could work as a straight comedy, which is what I think they're aiming for. However, I'm not sure it's got what it takes, especially with the competition that they have to face this week. I just don't think this trio works well together, and I'm not particularly looking forward to Katie Holmes' return to the big screen. I used to have a thing for her, but I just don't see it anymore.

Cloverfield - A viral movie starring.... who knows what! All you know is that whatever it is, it's winning. The people of New York (I think) are being terrorized by an unknown creature. Follow the journey of a group of people as they try to survive the terrifying ordeal.

How's it Gonna Do? - I think this is the clear cut winner for the week. There's been so much viral hype about it... a lot of which you can check out on Film School Rejects. I'm dying to know what the creature really is, and I'm willing to bet that a lot of other people are as well! The number one movie of the week, hands down. I've heard that it could be another Godzilla movie... which could be a good or a bad thing.

In addition to these great offerings, there's also Teeth, which is supposed to be quite interesting as well. I don't know too much about it, but I've seen the trailer for it and it was a little disturbing.... it could be really good though.

What are you planning on seeing this weekend?

All movies sound like pretty generic fodder to be honest. You know nothing special about them but intriguing enough to spark some interest from the viewers. I wonder when the DP movie will be made....ah the DP movie will be a sight to behold even if the only people that will ever watch it will be the film crew who made it and its relatives:)

Take your time with the PC changes and all, besides I dont see any obvious change in the frequency of posting. Trust me I know what 'less frequent posting' looks like:)

Take care!

a friend of mine is going to see Cloverfield this evening.. from what he's heard it's basically The Blair Witch project with giant monster/godzilla... so yea, I agree it will do well ..although I hear that Rotten Tomatoes gave it mixed reviews.. 70%+ from critics 50%+ from users

It was actually quite good, and I'll post a review about it, but I was definitely at least a little disappointed in it. It's good for what it was though.

We saw The Bucket List. It's been a long time since I've cried throughout a movie!
